Great photos of the ships. (I have a photo of a sailing schooner, built as a replica of those used in the 1800's, on my site yesterday).
Your photos remind me of a story that my late father used to tell about sailing in to Lisbon on an aircraft carrier around 1950. He was a career officer in the U.S. Navy. They brought a Portugese harbor master on board the ship to guide it, but the communications difficulties caused them to sail into the harbor when the tide was coming in. The only way to be able to steer a ship is to go faster than the currrent so that there is the movement of water across the rudder. My father said that they had to race into the harbor so fast that they almost collided with and took out a bridge.
Your photos are beautiful and remind me of the two, too-short days we spent in Lisbon about 7 years ago. We would love to come back, but until we do, we will enjoy your photos.
Seems to me that it is a very large ship, and I guess from your post there was concern about it hitting Lisbon's Bridge.

Looks like a splendid ship! Haven't ever been on a cruise; guess I just like smaller crafts. Haven't visited for awhile because I have been sick with a short hospital stay, but am on the road to recovery (and blogging again!) Will be back often. PS. Has anyone told you that your blog takes FOREVER to load...or is it just me?!

Did "Louis" show you the Queen Mary?
She had to come under the Golden Gate Bridge at just the right time in the tide, otherwise, she wouldn't have cleared the bridge. Even so, it was a tight fit!
