Good to Know!...

  1. BREAKING NEWS * LA CRÈME DE LA CRÈME: Bem-haja à [i Online], por me aceitarem como iRepóter e estarem a divulgar a Regata Atlântico Azul!!! Vejam (e votem) a notícia aqui: [Regata Atlântico Azul une Cais dos Vapores ao Parque das Nações] - Fonte: www.ionline.pt. * Dear Blogger Friends! I am now an iReporter of the Portuguese newspaper [i Online]!!! How 'bout that, Leif Hagen, huh?! This is the first time I get some news published!!!...
* By extraordinary coincidence, August 15th is not only the day I met the sailing Barges of the Tagus (at Cascais, in 2005), but also the Birthday of our Dear SAINT ANTHONY (born in Lisbon, Portugal, and deceased in Padua, Italy). Last but not the least, the typical sailing Barge «SANTO ANTÓNIO» will be participating in next Saturday's Race!...
  3. Our Dear Friend [DINA] pointed out a beautiful poem about the SEA at this [POST], by her blogger friend [SPACEDLAW]. Shalom, Dina!!...

SKY WATCH FRIDAY # 27

From left to right, Professor Luís Filipe (owner and skipper of the sailing barge «SALVARAM-ME»), Professor Ricardo Conduto (owner and skipper of the sailing barge «GAVIÃO DOS MARES»), Professor Carvalho Rodrigues (owner and co-skipper of the sailing Barge «ANA PAULA»), Sailor Mum, Sailor Girl, all members and fellows of the Tagus Navy, followed by members of Portuguese Navy and also of the Tagus Navy Association, Admiral Castanho Paes, Rear Admiral Bastos Saldanha, Captain CMG Rodrigues Pereira (Director of the Museum) and Wife.
The Flag of Atlântico Azul, formally adopted by the Tagus Navy under my glad and honoured authorisation , proudly waving (no wind, though) high up in Lisbon's clear Blue Sky last Saturday, April 18th, on the Cerimony held at the Navy Museum, in Belém (Lisbon), where it was placed on a permanent basis. The Navy Museum (Museu de Marinha) has also a section about the Tagus Navy, its Book of Registration, models of traditional ships from the Tagus River.
After the Cerimony, I was honoured with a warm Happy Birthday song!!! A contribution to Sky Watch Friday, wishing you a really Happy Day!...

ABC WEDNESDAY - # 01 (A)

«A» IS FOR «ATLÂNTICO AZUL»!
A contribution to ABC Wednesday, now on its round # 04!
Have another very Happy Day, my Friends!...
The flag of «Atlântico Azul» was designed and registered by Sailor Girl, with the help of [IADE] (Lisbon Arts and Design School), who offered all the technical support and the flag's specifications on my 36th Birthday. It represents not only UNITY around the World between all Countries, People and Creeds, but also the greatest Discovery of the Portuguese. «Portuguese, from the West, seeking lands of the East», as Portuguese Poet Luís Vaz de Camões sang on his poem «The Lusíadas». The Discovery of the Ocean, the Union of all Oceans, the Ocean Blue, color of the sky, the Ocean of the Portuguese and of Human kind. It is represented by the blue colour. This is the mark, the signature of the Portuguese, forever. It is centered by the unit of the armillary sphere, because, after the discovery, the entire Humanity discovered that we were connected by the roads of the Sea, which the Portuguese were the first to discover. It is topped by castles and armors, which are the signs of the Nation, the Portuguese Nation, spread and living all over the World.
ADENDA: it is also the official flag, the pavillion, of the «Tagus Navy», further to the author's authorisation, which highly honours me. Fourty five barges built between from 1900 to 2008 fly it and they feel very, very honoured and proud about it.

ABC Wednesday # 08

For today's letter, «U», I chose «UNITY», one of the pillars of Atlântico Azul and part of its motoUm só Oceano. Uma Só Cor. O Atlântico Azul»). Briefly, Atlântico Azul represents the great Discovery made by the Portuguese Sailors that all oceans were United. To illustrate it, I chose a beautiful music by The Lighthouse Family, «High», one of my favs from this band, now playing at Rádio Atlântico Azul (with three extra ones...)!!!! And here goes part of the lyrics:
«When you're close to tears remember someday it'll all be over. One day we're gonna get so high! Though it's darker than December, what's ahead is a different colour, one day we're gonna get so high! And at the end of the day remember the days when we were close to the end and wonder how we made it through the night! At the end of the day remember the way we stayed so close to the end! We'll remember it was me and you, 'cause we are gonna be FOREVER, YOU AND ME, you will always keep me flying high in the sky of love! Don't you think it's time you started doing what we always wanted, one day we're gonna get so high! 'Cause even the impossible is easy when we got each other, one day we're gonna get so high! (...)»
A contribution to Ms. Nesbitt's [ABC Wednesday], of which I am a proud team member!!!... Have a very Happy Day, my Friends!...

Acerca da Bandeira do Atlântico Azul * About the Flag of Atlântico Azul

Bandeira do Atlântico Azul - Copyright Raquel Sabino Pereira, a.k.a. Sailor Girl.

Today's post concerns the Flag and l'Ésprit «Atlântico Azul: The World is our Ship» or «One Ocean. One Colour. The Atlantic Blue». It normally identifies the traditional sailing barges of the River Tagus, such as MOITA, SARILHOS PEQUENOS and SEIXAL, and many others, in their races at River Tagus and other sailing ships along the Portuguese Coast, like the annual races to the islands of Berlengas (Berlengas Cup), promoted by JOÃO VEIGA and friends and the annual races at ALHANDRA. It is also used by many friends all over the World, in their ships and even in their bycicles and cars, as you may check at the following two photos, as an example:

From left to right, BLUE MOON I (from Lisbon), NAGUAL (from Cascais) and VÉRONIQUE (from Aveiro), with the flag of Atlântico Azul.

Another example: the bycicle of [Ricardo Diniz], the first Knight of the Order of the Atlantic Blue.

«Um só oceano. Uma só cor. O Atlântico Azul.»

«One Ocean. One colour. The Atlantic Blue.»

On Monday, April 9, 2007, subsequent to an undue and unlawful attitude from some users of the flag and visitors of this blog, I published a [LETTER TO MY READERS], describing the five pillars of Atlântico Azul. I got the idea after reading an issue of Portuguese Navy Review (Revista da Armada), where I found an interesting article about moral values, identity and memory which inspired me to write a post specially dedicated to my loyal friends and readers: the knights and other global comrades of Atlântico Azul. Many people had asked me what happened to this blog (as I was forced to delete it, after a serious of infamous attacks as above referred) and wished me all the best. I explained that sometimes in life you have to rewind and start all over again to maintain sanity levels to an acceptable point and to preserve each others' identity and memory, based in firm universal values. I pardoned the infractors, for too many times, but the attacks restarted from November 2007.

This blog is meant to be an escape from daily routine and a shield against sadness, loneliness and other less happy feelings deriving from all kinds of mental torture and painful truth. It is meant to put the Happy in our Ness and to try to make us laugh whenever all we want to do is cry or take the next flight departing from Lisbon Airport. It is also a record of daily feelings disguised within photographs, poems and news about the Blue. It is Life disguised within the Fantastic. A mental escape in forms of Art based in five pillars, dedicated to my friends and imposed to all readers and users of the flag:

  • COMPREHENSION
  • UNIVERSALITY
  • RESPECT
  • FREEDOM OF CHOICE
  • LOYALTY

As I have also been referring along this blog, all visitors and users of the flag must comply with the following MANDATORY COMMANDMENTS addapted from my Friend's [COCHISE'S BLOG]:

  1. Remain close to the great spirit;
  2. Show great respect for your fellow beings;
  3. Give assistance and kindness wherever needed;
  4. Be truthful and honest at all times;
  5. Do what you know to be right;
  6. Look after the well being of mind and body;
  7. Treat the earth and all that dwells thereon with respect;
  8. Take full responsibility for your actions;
  9. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good;
  10. Work together for the benefit of all mankind.

As my Friend "Cochise" says, «...if only people tried harder to follow these wise principles, what a wonderful world it would be»... Well, let's do it!... This is quite an inspiration for me to reinforce the pillars of the Atlantic Blue, so that its visitors and the users of its Flag do not forget.

The Insignia of the Order of the Knights of the Atlantic Blue: «PER MARE, PER TERRA, PER ARIA: SEMPER FIDELIS»

Finally, on Monday, January 14, 2008, I had once again to republish more conduct rules (I will translate them to you as soon as possible).
