Viva Cascais!!!

This weekend Cascais hosted a fabulous gathering of beautiful traditional sailing barges from the Tagus, with expositions, conferences, sailing activities for everybody, a bonfire party and, today, a great concert by the Band of Portuguese Navy at Baía de Cascais, followed by a great lunch at the Museum of the Sea (Museu do Mar).

This photo in particular depicts one of Cascais sailing barges, named «Não é desgraça ser pobre» («Being poor is no disgrace»), at Cascais Bay, by night. She is one of the many sailing barges of River Tagus registered at the Tagus Army Official Registration Book, aiming at the preservation of these important and historic ships.

Other traditional sailing barges from the Tagus present today at Cascais were from many friends from Moita and Sarilhos Pequenos, such as the following, by alphabetic order:

1. «Esperança» («Hope»), from Sarilhos Pequenos;
2. «Galdéria», from Sarilhos Pequenos;
3. «Nina», from Moita (the «Dream Team», which includes «Sal», the sailor dog);
4. «Ponta da Marinha», from Sarilhos Pequenos;
5. «Quim Zé», from Moita;
6. «Ruaz», from Sarilhos Pequenos;
7. «Sempre consegui» («I made it, after all»), from Rosário.

The Sports Department of the Municipality of Cascais and the Captain of the Port of Lisbon and Cascais must receive a big applause for the splendid organisation and warm reception offered to all sailors and friends during this unforgettable weekend!

While commuting to Lisbon...

On my today's trip to Lisbon from Cascais, along the ocean and the River Tagus, I was lucky to watch:

1. "MSC OPERA" departing Lisbon, heading somewhere into the Ocean;
2. "COMANDANTE JOÃO BELO" (former F480, already at the Atlantic) and "COMANDANTE SACADURA CABRAL" (former F483, passing under Lisbon's Bridge), two beautiful ships from Portuguese Navy recently sold to the Uruguay Navy, training the new crew before they depart, at the end of this month, to their new home...
3. "THE SCHOLAR SHIP", ahhh..., a transformed passenger ship hosting academic students on semester-long voyages around the world. Participants from diverse cultural backgrounds come together to co-create life-changing experiences that develop their intercultural competence and foster friendships reaching the far corners of the world;
4. "MS NOORDAM", a beautiful passenger ship from Holland America Line;
5. And too many fishermen's ships, sailing ships, windsurfers, and so on...

And YES I did come to work. At least phisically...

Também foram abertas vagas para TÉCNICOS NAVAIS com Bacharelato em Informática ou Eng.ª. Informática ou Eng.ª Informática e de Computadores (1 vaga); Eng.ª Electrotécnica - ramo de telecomunicações (1 vaga); Eng.ª Electrotécnica (1 vaga).

Infelizmente muitos de nós que gostaríamos de concorrer ficaríamos desde logo excluídos, pois o limite de idade é até aos 27 anos... Enfim, melhores dias certamente virão. Ver o Aviso de Abertura [AQUI].

REVISTA DA ARMADA

This picture depicts the Ceremony held at the Tower of Belém, Lisbon, evoquing the 200th Aniversary of the Departure of the Portuguese Royal Family to Brasil. My favourite ship, «CREOULA», was also there (look, you may find her beautiful masts behind the soldiers on the right)

Consta que o tema central da próxima edição da «Revista da Armada» é dedicado aos 70 anos do navio-escola SAGRES. Depois da comemoração dos 70 anos do navio-escola CREOULA em 10 de Maio de 2007 (construção PORTUGUESA e baptizado e lançado ao mar em PORTUGAL), eis mais um aniversário a comemorar.
