Hoje é o Dia Internacional do Livro Infantil

Today is International Day of Children’s Books! The Portuguese [National Reading Plan] and the [Network of School Libraries] invite everyone, specially children, their parents and teachers to read books at the school libraries! I hope they accept the invitation!... I will read again (for the 1000th time) «[Le Petit Prince]», by Saint-Exupéry!! It’s his 60th Anniversary and it always makes me dream and feel good…
I keep recalling the part when the Prince asks the narrator to draw a sheep, but as he doesn't know how to draw one, draws a hat instead, that looks like a boa with an elephant inside, like a hat. "No! No!" exclaims the Prince. "I don't want a boa with an elephant inside! I want a sheep!!!...". He tries other drawings, until he draws a plain box, explaining that the Prince may find a sheep inside of it. Finally, the Prince says "That's perfect". But what truly inspires me (and has inspired me since childhood) is the famous sentence by the fox: "On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux" (only with the heart one can see rightly, the essential is invisible to the eye)…

Oh that's so kind, Jilly! Merci bien!!! I immediately fell in love with the drawings and some years later with the story...

This is a fantastic post! Two of my children were READERS!! They amazed the school librarian ... she actually had to work to keep up with them.

I have to admit, though, when I clicked on your blog and first saw the picture and the title "Le Petit Prince" I thought I was being anointed!!! LOL
